The chalk professionals regained their freedom two days after their kidnapping during an attack that claimed the life of a police commissioner in Wum in the Menchum department of the North-West region.
After 48 hours in captivity, five teachers from the Wum Normal School for General Education Teachers are free. The director of the said school, Mrs. Kwa Hope, and the other four teachers, namely Presilla Ache, Divine Kometa, Nadine Kum, and Dieudonné Nchia, are now free and in the hands of the defense and security forces.

Kidnapped on September 8, 2026, late morning at their school, they were taken to an unknown location. The attack that occurred at their ENIEG and attributed to separatists cost the life of Chief Commissioner MBAH Tobie Damase. According to the statement from the governor of the North-West region, Adolphe Lele Lafrique, they were kidnapped by a terrorist group that infiltrated the Normal School on Tuesday, while the Menchum prefect was touring schools to assess the progress of the school year.

Condemning the attack firmly, the governor called on the population to remain calm. He reassured the educational community at the same time by stating that the defense and security forces have been deployed and are tracking down the perpetrators of the attack. The goal is to free the people held captive and bring the assailants to justice. At this stage, after the announcement of the teachers’ release and the publication of their image alongside the defense and security forces by local media, no official communication has yet been made.
