Faced with the multiplication of registrations deemed irregular in certain forest reserves, the Cameroonian government is trying to tighten the grip.
In a correspondence dated February 12, 2026, the Minister of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure, Henri Eyebe Ayissi, addressed the prefects for the attention of the sub-prefects in order to strengthen administrative coordination in the processing of registration files.
This instruction comes in a context marked by growing concerns about the protection of the national forest heritage. According to the minister, several forest reserves, although intended for conservation and sustainable resource management, are subject to irregular land registration procedures. A situation that could compromise efforts to preserve these protected areas.
Relying notably on a correspondence from the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, the member of government asks the territorial administrative authorities to systematically invite the competent officials of the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife to the work of the consultative registration commission. This participation must occur in both concession procedures and direct registrations of national domain dependencies.
For the minister, this measure aims to ensure better consideration of environmental issues in the examination of land files, pending a possible evolution of the texts governing the statutory composition of the said commission.
Henri Eyebe Ayissi thus insists on the strict observation of this directive, presented as an essential lever to preserve the State’s commitments regarding the conservation of forest reserves and ensure compliance with current regulations.
