Fight against unsanitary conditions: heading towards the greening of primary schools

After the launch of the Urban Platform operation in Cameroon on December 5, 2025, at the Mfandena Public School, the initiative is expanding to schools in Yaoundé 5th.

Driven by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, led by Célestine Ketcha Courtès, the crusade against insalubrity is reaching a new stage. After the kickoff at the Mfandena Public School in Yaoundé, the public school complexes of Camp Sonel Essos, Djoungolo, Ngoulemekong, and Ngousso received significant logistical support on March 02, 2026.

In total, 125 selective sorting bins and six plastic bottle collection cages were handed over by the Technical Advisor of Minhdu, François Ossama. An endowment intended to instill, from an early age, good habits in waste management and recovery.
“The change in mentalities must start at the base, in our primary schools,” emphasized the minister’s representative, placing this action within the implementation of the recommendations of the General Assembly on urban waste management, environmental education component.
For the authorities, this equipment constitutes the granite foundation of a circular economy under construction. Alongside the project manager of the Urban Platform in Cameroon, Murielle Bissek, and the mayor of Yaoundé 5th, Augustin Bala, local officials welcomed an initiative set to spread to other districts.
