In Yaoundé, the reflection work on the future National Strategy for Decentralization and Local Development took place on May 21, 2026, in a dynamic of alignment with the 2030 National Development Strategy, with the ambition to strengthen the coherence of local public policies.

Under the presidency of the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development, represented by its Secretary General Fred Ebongue Makollé, a brainstorming workshop was held in Yaoundé on May 21, 2026, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Governor’s Services, as well as the main actors of territorial governance. The Directors General of FEICOM and BUNEC, alongside mayors and regional councilors, took part in the discussions in a context of ongoing public action reform.
The exercise aims to define the foundations of a 2026-2030 strategy capable of ensuring the coherence of interventions by Decentralized Territorial Collectivities and sustainably improving the well-being of populations. It also aims to strengthen local planning and the performance of public policies in a results-oriented logic.
In this perspective, regional consultations will be deployed throughout the territory. They will allow the priorities of the territories to be raised and enrich a strategic document designed as a true tool for guiding local governance.
