Coastline and climate: an AIRF delegation on a mission to Cameroon

Members of the International Association of Francophone Regions have been in Cameroon since April 07, 2026, for a seven-day mission.

The South Region of Cameroon is hosting a mission dedicated to climate issues and sustainable coastal management from April 07 to 14, 2026. For the past 24 hours, the mission has brought together representatives from Cameroonian regions as well as international partners, including members of the International Association of Francophone Regions (AIRF). The latter landed on Tuesday at Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport before heading to the city of Ebolowa, the regional capital of the South, where the first stage of the mission is taking place.

Over the coming days, the mission, which will also move to Kribi, will focus on the development and implementation of strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the promotion of sustainable coastal management. To this end, the work is organized around several activities, including working sessions, meetings with local administrative authorities, exchanges with institutional actors, and field visits. The goal is to share experiences and best practices and to formulate recommendations adapted to local realities.

The mission, which is part of decentralized cooperation, contributes to supporting local authorities in taking climate issues into account. According to the Association of Regions of Cameroon, this mission involves technical and strategic challenges for the regions of Cameroon. “It contributes to strengthening local capacities in terms of climate governance and promoting integrated and sustainable management of territories, particularly in coastal areas facing increasing environmental pressures,” the association explains.
