According to the distribution made by the EU, 154 million CFA francs will be allocated for assistance to victims of the fires in Kolofata in the Far North region. These funds will be made available to the Cameroon Red Cross, which will use them to provide multisectoral assistance to 3,312 households, or 23,184 people, over a period of five months. The aid primarily targets children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. By receiving cash, families will be able to independently meet their needs for food, shelter, health, or hygiene.
Furthermore, 164 million CFA francs will provide aid to the populations most affected by food insecurity in the Far North, North, and East regions. The objective is to provide vital aid to approximately 92,600 people in these regions through cash grants paid to 2,100 households, or 12,600 people. These grants will be supplemented by integrated services in the areas of water, sanitation and hygiene, health, nutrition, and agricultural support for 80,000 people. The targeted populations are those living in areas where stock depletion and population displacement are most critical.

According to the EU, this funding is part of its global contribution to the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). And it is not the organization’s first humanitarian funding in Cameroon. Since 2017, the EU has allocated 205 million euros, or 134 billion 471 million CFA francs, in humanitarian aid to assist the most vulnerable people in Cameroon. This aid takes the form of food and nutritional assistance, healthcare, emergency shelter, education, protection, disaster preparedness, and access to clean water and sanitation.
