
Minister of Energy Announces Intensive Controls Starting March 15, 2026
The Minister of Water and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, announced the reinforcement of operations to combat electricity fraud throughout the national territory starting March 15, 2026. Conducted in collaboration with the public electricity service concessionaire, these “blitz” operations are part of the priority measures in the post-renationalization context of ENEO.

The main objective is to reduce commercial losses and ensure strict compliance with the law. According to the authorities, electricity fraud causes the state an estimated annual loss of over 60 billion CFA francs, to the detriment of the investments necessary for improving public service. It is also pointed out as one of the major causes of fires and electrocution cases observed in the country.

Faced with this situation, the minister invites clandestine users to regularize their meters and installations without delay in order to bring them into compliance with current standards. He calls for the sense of responsibility and civic-mindedness of all consumers, emphasizing that the fight against fraud is in the general interest.
