Before their departure to their respective destinations, they were received on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the residence of the ambassador, head of the European Union Delegation in Yaoundé. Advice and testimonies filled the meeting.
In a few weeks, twenty Cameroonian students will set off for Europe to continue their studies. Ahead of this trip, it is time for the final preparations before departure. All have been admitted to the Erasmus Mundus joint Master’s 2026-2028. Among them, eleven secured the coveted excellence scholarship funded by the European Union. The other nine will follow the same path, without Erasmus funding.
On Wednesday, July 29, they gathered at the residence of the head of the European Union Delegation in Yaoundé. Over breakfast, it was a time for both congratulations and advice. Facing them, former beneficiaries, representatives of the European Union member states, and university partners came to share an experience that the new laureates are about to live in turn.
Their academic adventure will take place in Germany, France, Belgium, Portugal, Ireland, Malta, or Finland. For two years, the laureates will move from one university to another. This mobility is designed to cross approaches and train graduates capable of evolving in an international environment.
The profiles are varied, as are the chosen disciplines, including statistics, quantitative economics, engineering, digital technology, environment, health, research, and others.

For Jean-Marc Châtaigner, ambassador of the European Union to Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, these young people carry an ambition. “Their primary wish is to return to serve Cameroon,” he said.
A laureate recalls having long believed that this program was inaccessible. “I thought it was for others,” she says. Today, she already sees herself returning with skills she wishes to put at the service of her country. “I remember this date very well. On April 1, I received a direct admission to the Erasmus Mundus program without pre-selection. It was a pride for me. I truly expect from the Erasmus Mundus program to be equipped because I intend to put my skills in statistics and quantitative economics at the service of Cameroon.”
In Cameroon, since September 2023, 56 students have joined an Erasmus Mundus Master’s, including 47 thanks to a European Union scholarship. More broadly, over 900 Cameroonian students, teachers, and university staff have already benefited from Erasmus+ mobility. The 2026 class, in turn, enriches this community.
