The Ministry of Mines, Industry, and Technological Development has published a summary table of illegal gold exports between 2021 and 2025.
The comparative table of official and smuggled exports shows a huge discrepancy between the volumes of gold and the estimated revenue amounts. According to ministry data, over five years, 44.3 tons of gold were fraudulently exported abroad, with estimated revenues of 2,000 billion CFA francs.
During the same period, data revealed by Customs and the National Mining Company (Sonamine) show an official export of 147 kg declared by Customs and 1.89 tons declared by Customs and Sonamine under the synthetic tax and export duty. Cumulative tax losses are estimated at 577.51 billion FCFA.
The Ministry of Mines announces tax and customs recovery measures in Cameroon and abroad with the aim of recovering these tax losses caused by smuggling. Another measure aimed at preventing these losses is the integration of the Directorate General of Taxes and the Directorate General of Customs into the collection process to support Sonamine’s work on mining sites.
