The judge decided on February 3, 2026, to grant provisional release to the journalist working for Naja TV.
After two weeks of detention at Kondengui prison in Yaoundé, journalist Brand Kamga, host of the show Sans Tabous on Naja Tv, has been granted provisional release. The court made this decision this Tuesday at the end of the hearing, postponing it to February 17 for “execution before ruling and continuation of the debates,” as specified by his lawyer, Me Hypolite Meli.

The lawyer told the press after the hearing that the decision to release him is a victory against police violence, judicial violence, and forces lurking in the shadows who want to silence the journalist. Brand Kamga has been detained in prison since January 19, 2026. He is being prosecuted for “attempted child abduction” following a complaint filed by Annette Josiane Wandji, who accuses him of trying to abduct her son from his school. However, the journalist was actually conducting a journalistic investigation into a social issue, recalled the TV presenter’s lawyer.
While Brand Kamga’s lawyer rejoices in a victory, the plaintiff’s lawyer refrains from commenting on the court’s decision. Me Jules Bertin Fongang, for his part, denounces a media smear campaign and all defamatory acts and the spread of false news against his client.

For the continuation of the proceedings, Brand Kamga will appear as a free man. On January 19, when invited by his investigator to appear before the judicial police officer, the journalist did not return home. At the end of the hearing, the police officer decided to refer him to the public prosecutor’s office, which later ordered his provisional detention. On January 20, he appeared for the first time before the correctional chamber of the Court of First Instance of Yaoundé Ekounou.
