The Regional Delegation of Basic Education of the Center initiated an administrative investigation this Thursday, May 28, to establish the facts while another investigation is being conducted by judicial police officers. At the same time, two ministers carried out a field visit.
An alleged rape case involving little Joyce Nawal, aged two years and 11 months, has been shaking the internet since May 25, 2026. In a video, the girl’s mother brought to public attention the accusation that her child was subjected to abuse anally and vaginally. Her suspicions point to the private school GSB La Glory Olympic in Odza where the child is enrolled. According to her, it was some time after the girl returned from school that her relatives noticed signs indicating violence against the child. To dispel doubts, the family resorted to an ultrasound. It showed “a clean vulva, hymen present with a wide opening, presence of two anal fissures at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, slight pelvic effusion.” The medical certificate noted traumas that could be caused by intense friction or brutal sexual intercourse. This medical confirmation of abuse on the little girl prompted her parents to express their anger in front of the school where they demanded the surveillance videos.

But the school shows refusal and accuses the parents of wanting to tarnish its image. Hence, a clarification from the school management was highlighted stating that “on May 25, the little girl was at school during the day and her parents picked her up at 1:40 PM. It was around 5:00 PM that her mother returned to the school to report the situation and refused to communicate with the coordinator present on site. The next day, the parents rather barricaded the entrance of the school around 6:00 AM.”
Faced with this situation, the school administration filed a complaint with the Odza gendarmerie brigade. In its statement on May 27, it declared requesting an “absolute truth investigation.” It also stated that the school is collaborating proactively and transparently. It has transmitted the surveillance videos from the system and other information to the investigators. While collective outrage grows stronger, the school calls on the public to remain calm and wait for the truth to emerge from the ongoing judicial investigation.
Furthermore, for the same situation, the Regional Delegate of Basic Education for the Center instructed the Departmental Delegate for Mfoundi to conduct an administrative investigation into this alleged case of sexual violence against a minor. The purpose of the investigation is to establish the facts, assess any administrative responsibilities, and evaluate the safety and protection conditions of learners within the GSB La Glory Olympic school in Odza.
Justice for Nawal
This Thursday morning, angry residents of the Odza neighborhood arrived en masse at the school to express their outrage and demand justice. The administrative authorities and law enforcement forces were nevertheless able to calm tensions. Early in the afternoon, the Minister of Basic Education, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa, accompanied by State Secretary Vivian Asheri Kilo, the governor of the Center region, and the sub-prefect of the Yaoundé IV district, made a visit to the school. Also, the Minister for the Promotion of Women and the Family was present on site. She ordered the field services to carry out a social intervention through an urgent social investigation, psychosocial care for the child and family, as well as the establishment of a psychosocial listening clinic for other parents and school staff.
