
Gathered in Bujumbura for the 61st session of UNSAC, the states and regional organizations of Central Africa are strengthening their coordination around conflict prevention mechanisms and preventive diplomacy. ECCAS advocates a concerted approach for lasting peace in the sub-region.
The Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) is actively participating in the 61st meeting of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa (UNSAC), opened on May 25 in Bujumbura, Burundi. The discussions, which conclude on May 29, 2026, focus on strengthening regional mechanisms for prevention, mediation, and peaceful conflict resolution.

Led by the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Army Corps General Marcel Mapangou Moussadji, the ECCAS delegation is participating in the preparatory work of experts before the ministerial segment in which the President of the ECCAS Commission, Ambassador Dr. Ezéchiel Nibigira, will take part.
During the discussions, ECCAS presented an analysis of the geopolitical and security situation in Central Africa through MARAC. Delegates were also informed about the progress of the future Regional Framework for Mediation and Preventive Diplomacy of the Community.
This session was also marked by the election of Burundi as the president of the new Committee bureau. Through its participation, ECCAS intends to strengthen its role in crisis prevention and the promotion of regional stability.
