The events took place in the city of Sangmélima, South region, and involve students and a teacher from the Lycée Classique Moderne of Sangmélima.
According to media sources, eight students were permanently expelled last Monday from the Lycée Classique et Moderne of Sangmélima in the Dja and Lobo department. The decision was made following a disciplinary council held by the head of the secondary school on Friday, February 13, 2026. The principal convened the council after the assault of a Latin teacher who had reported, with video evidence, a group of students engaging in gambling within the school premises on February 09, 2026.

Since the game in question is prohibited by the school’s internal regulations, the Latin teacher captured some images as evidence to report the group to the administration. Furious, the students did not accept the teacher’s action aimed at correcting their misconduct. On February 10, as the teacher was heading to the school, one of them, accompanied by his older brother, physically and verbally assaulted him, chasing him to the high school. The teacher took refuge at the principal’s residence located within the school grounds. However, the student’s older brother did not stop there, also intruding into the head of the school’s residence.

Despite the intervention of the principal and his relatives, the young man in civilian clothes did not give up his pursuit while continuing to make threats against the teacher. Alerted, law enforcement officers intervened to arrest him. Following the incident, the principal filed a complaint against the young man, and the teacher filed another. At the school level, the disciplinary council met to settle the case of the students filmed gambling.
