The operations to revise the electoral rolls will end on August 31, 2026, and will only resume on January 2, 2027. Awareness campaigns are accelerating to encourage lagging citizens to catch up.
In two weeks, the Elections Cameroon services responsible for carrying out electoral roll revision operations will suspend enrollment activities. The electoral law provides for the end of these operations on the 31st of August. The goal is to increase the number of already registered voters. Since the start of operations last January, at least 150,000 new voters have been enrolled, of which 40% are women. The figures recorded at the end of July 2026 show an increase compared to those of May, which indicated 107,412 new voters, including 71,941 young people aged 20 to 35.

This progress is due partly to the mobilization on the ground of Elecam’s enrollment teams as well as to awareness-raising. The body in charge of organizing elections is conducting an awareness campaign to encourage potential undecided voters who are lagging to register on the electoral rolls. Conducted with the support of partners such as UN Women and civil society organizations, it aims to register more citizens of voting age on the electoral rolls, focusing on women, young people, and persons living with disabilities. Another objective is to get these social categories more interested in politics. Registration on the lists gives the possibility to defend rights related to representation within decision-making spheres.
The challenge for all actors is to boost registrations before the end of the scheduled period in two weeks. Beyond August 31, which marks the end of registration operations, the upcoming electoral deadlines constitute another source of motivation to encourage citizens to enroll. To do this, political parties are also active in convincing citizens with various arguments.
Those of the opposition, for example, point out that massive registrations will ensure a massive vote against the ruling party. Such a vote favoring a majority in the National Assembly and municipal councils will be the awaited opportunity to improve the governance of the country, starting with the adoption of texts to fill existing legal gaps. The ruling party officials, for their part, raise awareness for massive registrations in order to maintain their majorities in parliament and municipal councils.
Ultimately, the goal is to have a more comprehensive national electoral register on the eve of the upcoming legislative and municipal elections. On the eve of the 2025 presidential election, the figures communicated on October 9, 2025, by the Director General of Elections, Erik Essousse, reported 8,010,464 voters, including 34,411 members of the diaspora.
