The mayor of the district municipality of Edéa II died this Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Mouna clinic in Douala following an illness.

The city of light is plunged into mourning this Thursday morning. The chief magistrate of the municipality of Edéa 2nd, Jean Mbei Nje, passed away after serving in the municipality’s executive for nearly 20 years. Elected mayor in 2013, then re-elected in 2020, he worked extensively for the development of the city of Edéa within his area of jurisdiction.

His services, first as deputy mayor since 2007 and then as mayor, contributed to improving the lives of the people of the Edéa II municipality. During these years, he worked to implement development projects, specifically road infrastructure, access to water and electricity, not forgetting schools, thus providing answers to the concerns of the local community’s residents.



A member of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), this son of Ekité, a notable at the traditional chieftaincy of Ekité 2, worked for the leadership of the ruling party in Edéa. In 2015, he was elected president of the CPDM section of Edéa 2 and continued with the revitalization of the militant base and territorial establishment. At 64, he had accumulated political experience in his homeland, allowing him to maintain leadership over the municipality, a leadership that was not limited to politics.

Jean Mbei Nje also distinguished himself in the economic field in general. Known as a financial expert, he worked extensively for the creation of the ABN group, which includes the structures carrying brands such as Supermont, Opur, Planet, Lana, and ABN Motors. For 15 years, he was the administrative and financial director of the ABN group, which also contributes to the well-being of Cameroonians.

His expertise stemmed from his training and the experience gained in accounting and finance. After obtaining his baccalaureate, he continued his studies at ESSEC in Douala before going abroad. He returned to the country with accounting skills that allowed him to find his place in the economic sphere to contribute to the development of the country.

This morning, François Biba, Member of Parliament for Sanaga-Maritime, said he learned of his death with deep sadness and expressed his condolences to the nuclear family and the political family of the deceased.
