Feo Kague on the way to UNESCO. The Minister of Arts and Culture received in audience, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in the conviviality room of the National Museum, a delegation of the Tupuri community led by Dr. Eng. Emmanuel POHOWE, Deputy General Manager of CICAM, and Mr. DANLAI TINAKREO, Secretary General of the Supreme Spiritual Chief Wang Doré.

Objective: to present the project to inscribe Feo Kague on the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Feo Kague, literally “Rooster Festival,” is a ritual event of the Tupuri community established in the Far North of Cameroon and Chad. Celebrated at the end of the harvest between September and November, it is a moment of gratitude to God and the ancestors for the rains and harvests, and an invocation for peace, protection, and prosperity. All accompanied by Bil-Bil, a traditional millet-based drink.

Beyond the ritual, Feo Kague is a moment of reconciliation, forgiveness, sharing, and intergenerational transmission. While some aspects remain reserved for initiates, symbolic reproductions in Yaoundé and Douala allow the diaspora and youth to maintain the connection.

The delegation requested support from MINAC. The Director of Cultural Heritage recalled UNESCO requirements: demonstrate the living nature of the heritage, provide safeguarding measures, and obtain the free consent of the community. Already registered in the national register, the file must be updated with songs, testimonies, and photos.
