Cameroonian youth, facing multiple challenges, continue to be a major issue for policymakers. Their concerns, including education, unemployment, professional integration, empowerment, and many others, attract the attention of the government, local authorities, the private sector, as well as technical and financial partners. To provide solutions, the government has developed a National Youth Plan (PNJ).
The August 11 roundtable, bringing together all stakeholders and youth, aims to promote collective ownership of this plan and better coordination of interventions in favor of young people. The policy defined in this framework aims to place youth at the center of public action. The government’s vision favors acquiring skills useful for employment rather than theoretical training; integrating youth initiatives into national value chains; and considering civics as a lever for integration and citizen participation.
The PNJ thus provides mechanisms that can help address these youth concerns, which constitute factors of instability. With a budget of 386.1 billion CFA francs, the national plan for youth includes interventions in four main areas. Education and training, the foundation of human development, is allocated a forecast of 334 billion CFA francs. The allocation reserved for employment and economic integration is estimated at 30.2 billion CFA francs. 11.6 billion CFA francs go to health and well-being. While 10.3 billion CFA francs are reserved for institutional governance.

Presided over by the Minister of Youth and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, last Tuesday’s meeting is part of mobilizing stakeholders for the implementation of the said plan. The discussions aimed to bring everyone together, strengthen partnership ties to accelerate actions, indicates the Ministry of Youth. For the Ministry of Economy, represented by Deputy Minister Paul Tasong, the success of the plan depends on the involvement of various actors as well as the integration of youth concerns into public policies.
Co-organized by the Ministry of Youth and the Ministry of Economy, the roundtable on the theme “Building resilient and inclusive youth” mobilized, besides the government, the United Nations system and other partners. It reveals the reality that young people are also actors, development partners. Consequently, they can contribute to the implementation of the said Plan. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 27th edition of International Youth Day, celebrated on August 12, 2026.
