The political party, after noting the extension of the absence of the President of the Republic at the Unity Palace, makes recommendations to the institutions, in order to clarify the mechanisms for conducting public action.
Having left Cameroon on June 7, 2026, for a short private stay in Europe, the Head of State Paul Biya is still out of the country. The official note from the Civil Cabinet announcing his departure from Yaoundé provides no details other than the entourage accompanying him. However, from consistent sources, President Paul Biya traveled to Switzerland for reasons not disclosed. More than 40 days later, the President of the Republic has given no news since his departure. It is also difficult for the press to filter information about his private stay in Europe.

On the ground in Cameroon, tongues are loosening. Citizens are questioning a certain “prolonged absence” at the presidency of the Republic. Among these Cameroonians are the president of the Democratic Union of Cameroon (UDC) and party activists. In a statement, Patricia Tomaino Ndam Njoya denounces the silence surrounding the absence of the Head of State at the seat of institutions for more than 40 days.
The stability of institutions also requires transparency; the UDC focuses on the issue of the legitimate continuity of public action, the effective exercise of presidential responsibilities, and the applicable mechanisms in case of temporary impediment. For the party, the current situation shows the need to appoint a Vice President of the Republic as provided by the constitution revised by the law of April 14, 2026.
Faced with the urgency imposed according to the party, it calls for the regulation of prolonged absences of the Head of State by rules and precise deadlines; the guarantee of regular information to the nation and Parliament. The UDC also calls for the provision of an express and published delegation of certain presidential functions when continuity requires it; to define an impartial procedure for establishing temporary or definitive impediment. And to prevent any risk of institutional blockage at the top of the State. In the absence of the President of the Republic, the political party asks the competent institutions to enlighten the nation on the effective continuity of the State.

During this stay in Europe, many facts lead Cameroonians to question like the UDC. Some Cameroonians claiming to be from the Anti Sardinard Brigade occupied the Head of State’s residence hotel for a “demonstration” aimed at provoking his return to Cameroon. His absence from the Unity Palace is felt even more due to the context arising from the last presidential election and the start of his eighth term. President Paul Biya promised to form a new government team to implement his policy during the seven-year term. But, more than half a year later, the government is still awaited. Likewise, the constitutional revision of April 14 provides for the appointment of a Vice President. The position is not yet filled.
Taking advantage of this void, fake presidential decrees introduced at Crtv almost caused an institutional crisis in the absence of the Head of State. Also, as the last decade of July approaches, the next legislative and municipal elections are drawing nearer, another major event already shaking up the political formations, including the ruling party. The RDPC central committee has called some officials to a statutory meeting to be held on July 21, 2026, still in the absence of the party president in Cameroon.
