The Acting Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Fuh Calistus Gentry, presented these measures during a joint press briefing on July 15, 2026, in Yaoundé.
Cameroon is firmly focused on the development and modernization of its mining sector for greater benefits to the State coffers and the well-being of the population. However, many obstacles still stand in the way. The Cameroonian government is taking new measures to address these and pave the way for improvement.

Among these measures is the fight against mining companies operating illegally. For this, the Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development – Minmidt – has launched this battle. So far, about 200 counterfeiters have already been neutralized. These illegal mining companies have been identified, closed, and legal proceedings have been initiated against those responsible.
The authorities continue the cleanup battle by strengthening this crackdown with other measures. According to Minmidt, it is first about rigorously applying the laws and regulations in force in the mining sector in Cameroon. Then, in connection with modernization, mining should give an important place to semi-mechanization. This will help avoid “the lure of quick profit for operators” and boost production. It concerns operations of two to 15 tons per year. Finally, the government intends to grant more exploitation titles to national operators.

To implement these measures, which align with the national policy in the mining sector, the State has set up an institutional framework. The ministry in charge of mines, the National Mining Company, the general directorates of Customs and Taxes carry out their missions in synergy. The goal is to meet the challenges posed in the implementation of structuring projects in the sector.
