The Cameroonian government launched on Wednesday in Yaoundé the 6th edition of the Cameroonian Month of Childhood, an annual initiative dedicated to the promotion and strengthening of the protection of children’s rights throughout the national territory, reported CRTV, the public media.
Held under the theme “Promoting children’s rights in Cameroon: a requirement for sustainable inclusive development,” this edition brings together public authorities, technical and financial partners as well as various social protection actors. The common goal remains to guarantee every child equitable access to their fundamental rights.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Minister of Social Affairs, Pauline Irène Nguene, emphasized that this edition takes place in a particularly worrying social context. “This month occurs in a context marked by violence against children, infanticides, and all kinds of abuse towards children,” she said.
The minister reaffirmed the government’s determination to fight against these practices that compromise the development of young generations. The program of this 6th edition includes awareness-raising, education, and community mobilization activities in favor of child protection.
The Cameroonian Month of Childhood is celebrated every year in Cameroon through various activities aimed at promoting the rights, protection, and well-being of children.
