
The electricity sector regulator has reviewed the analysis notes of the Kikot-Mbebe hydroelectric project. A decisive technical step for this 500 MW energy infrastructure planned in the Central region.
The Electricity Sector Regulatory Agency (ARSEL) held a meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Yaoundé, dedicated to the presentation of the analysis notes of the construction project of the Kikot-Mbebe hydroelectric development, planned in the departments of Nyong and Kelle (Central) and Sanaga Maritime (Littoral). The meeting was chaired by the Director General of ARSEL, Jean Pascal Nkou.

The meeting, organized at the institution’s headquarters, brought together the Director General of KHPC, Christophe Avognon, accompanied by his collaborators, as well as several officials from the Ministry of Water and Energy (MINEE).
With a projected capacity of 500 MW, the Kikot-Mbebe dam is among Cameroon’s key energy projects. This technical session aimed to examine the various components of the file before the next implementation phases.

Through this evaluation step, the authorities intend to strengthen the regulatory and technical framework of the project, while securing investments related to this infrastructure expected to sustainably reinforce the national electricity supply.
