
The Cameroonian government launched a four-day polio vaccination campaign on Thursday in six of the country’s ten regions: Adamaoua, Centre, East, Far North, Littoral, and North.
The campaign, led by the WHO’s Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), aims to administer two doses of vaccine to children aged 0 to 59 months through a “door-to-door” strategy.

The operation comes in a context marked by the resurgence of variant polioviruses in the Lake Chad basin, where several cases have been reported since late 2025, with an increased threat to Cameroon.
According to health authorities, despite efforts made in recent years, the risk of spread remains high, particularly due to cross-border movements and still insufficient performance of some vaccination campaigns.

Vaccination remains, to date, the most effective way to prevent polio and protect children against this disabling disease.
