Lebanon declares a day of national mourning following deadly Israeli strikes

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced on Wednesday that Thursday, April 9, would be declared a national day of mourning in tribute to the victims and the injured of the Israeli attacks that targeted hundreds of civilians.

All public administrations, institutions, and municipalities will be closed, national flags will be flown at half-mast, and radio and television broadcasts will be adapted to reflect the national mourning, according to the Prime Minister.



He added that he remained in contact with Arab leaders and international officials to intensify Lebanon’s political and diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the Israeli attacks.

To date, Wednesday’s Israeli strikes across Lebanon have left at least 254 dead and 1,165 injured, with densely populated neighborhoods of the capital, Beirut, among the hardest hit, according to the latest data provided by the Lebanese Civil Defense.
