He made these remarks during a meeting with the head of the Pakistani army, Asim Mounir, who arrived in Tehran on Wednesday leading a high-level delegation as part of ongoing efforts to mediate talks between the United States and Iran.

“I hope that those who started the war and are now desperately seeking to end it will truly put an end to their past behaviors that have fueled mistrust, through their actions and deeds,” Mr. Ghalibaf said.

Welcoming Pakistan’s efforts to help ensure a ceasefire and facilitate talks between Tehran and Washington, he stated that the implementation of a comprehensive ceasefire in all conflict zones was among the conditions for the preliminary truce, calling on Islamabad to monitor its implementation as a mediator.

In a phone call early Thursday with his Lebanese counterpart Nabih Berri, Mr. Ghalibaf confirmed that Lebanon was an integral part of a full ceasefire in the Middle East and played an important role in efforts to ensure lasting peace in the region, according to the semi-official Iranian news agency Tasnim.

Asim Mounir said he understood the importance of a ceasefire in Lebanon and that he “will follow up on this matter.”
After more than a month of conflict that has intensified in the Middle East, the United States and Iran agreed on a two-week ceasefire on April 7, followed by peace talks between the Iranian and American delegations in Islamabad on Saturday and Sunday morning.
