In a statement published in Douala on March 13, the family of the president of MANIDEM announced the organization of the funeral ceremonies for the late political leader. Family, relatives, and activists are called upon to pay him a final tribute.
The family of the president of MANIDEM, Georges Anicet Ekane, announced that his funeral will be held on April 24 and 25, 2026. In a statement published in Douala on March 13, 2026, the Ekan’a Mbongo family of Bonaguem, originally from Bomono‑Gare, informed national and international opinion of the arrangements made to pay a final tribute to the man they present as a “fighter.”
According to the statement, the decision was made by mutual agreement between the family, his wife Jeanne Edwige Ekane née Sogue, and MANIDEM (African Movement for New Independence and Democracy). The funeral ceremonies will take place over two days, Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25, 2026. The burial is scheduled for Saturday, April 25.
The family specifies that the detailed program of the various ceremonies, tributes, and events planned as part of this funeral will be communicated later.
In its message, the Ekan’a Mbongo family calls on civil society, political parties, as well as all citizens and sympathizers to join in these moments of reflection and memory in tribute to the late political leader.
The statement is signed by his wife, Jeanne Edwige Ekane, as well as by several family members, including Claude Otando Ekane, Henri Joseph Ekane, Charles François Ekane, Mariane Simon Ekane, Benoît Patrice Ekane, Honoré Guy Thomas Ekane, Hermine Djongwane Ekane, and Désirée Blas Ekane.
Finally, the family expresses its gratitude to all individuals, organizations, and institutions that will take part in these tributes and show their support during this period of mourning.
