For the moment, the national president of the Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon has not expressed his intention to run for the next National Assembly elections.
The news circulating on the web for a few days indicating that Prof. Maurice Kamto is a candidate for the candidacy in the next legislative elections in the Mfoundi department is unfounded. The poster that brings this rumor to the attention of the online community is now stamped “Fake news” by officials of the Movement for the Rebirth of Cameroon (MRC). This is to indicate that the former presidential candidate in Cameroon has not made a statement about an intention to prepare a candidacy for the next electoral deadlines. Consequently, the news “is made up. There is no reason to pay attention to it,” declared the MRC’s communication secretary, Joseph Emmanuel Ateba, reached by phone.
However, the Party, which opted for the boycott of the legislative and municipal elections of February 09, 2020, intends to enter the race for seats as deputies and municipal councilors in 2026. To this end, the MRC is preparing for these events, but information about the techniques and strategies, “that is not said.” For the moment, “the candidacies have not yet been made. So we don’t know who is a candidate and who is not a candidate,” the party not having yet made any nominations, specified the communication secretary.
As the days go by, some people are increasingly eager to know which political parties and which profiles will take part in the legislative and municipal elections. In the case of the MRC, while it is already clear that the party ranked 2nd in the 2018 presidential election is preparing to go down to the field to win over the electorate, the question of the profiles proposed as candidates in 360 communes and in the 58 departments remains. In the coming weeks, no doubt, the time will come when the party deems it appropriate to communicate on the subject.
