
Cerebrovascular diseases kill the most women in Cameroon with 9.0% of deaths, followed by perinatal conditions at 7.0% and diabetes at 4.7%, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health.
This is an alarming reality for women’s health. In Cameroon, stroke is now the leading initial cause of death among women.
According to figures published in a chart “Top 10 initial causes among women,” from the source “MINSANTE, DHIS2/ICD-11 – Cause of Death-2025 / ANACoD3,” “Cerebrovascular disease” alone accounts for “9.0%” of cases.
In second place are “Conditions arising during the perinatal period” with “7.0%,” an indicator that heavily impacts neonatal mortality related to the mother.
The top three is completed by metabolic diseases: “Diabetes mellitus” at “4.7%” and “Endocrine disorders” at “4.3%.”
Infectious diseases remain deadly. “Malaria” causes “4.1%” of female deaths and “HIV” “3.8%.”
The ranking continues with “Nephritis and nephrosis” at “3.3%,” “Lower respiratory tract infections” at “3.2%,” “Hypertensive disease” at “3.1%,” and finally “Maternal conditions” at “2.8%.”
These data highlight the urgency of preventing non-communicable diseases among women.
