On February 27, 2026, the Seed of Health and Development (SHAD) association presented the results of its Human-Centered Design (HCD) pilot project, implemented in three health districts in the Centre region.

The meeting room of the Centre Regional Delegation served as the setting for the presentation of the results of the project entitled: “Human-Centered Design (HCD)”. The project aimed to identify problems related to vaccination difficulties and propose solutions. During the project period, the work of the agents contributed to improving the demand and use of routine vaccination services for zero doses, HPV, and vitamin A in the health districts of Djoungolo, Cite Verte, and Nkoldongo.

According to data from the SHAD organization, the project led to improvements in vaccination services, a better understanding of vaccination schedules, and the adoption of good nutritional and breastfeeding practices. “What motivated the Shad organization to implement this project were behavioral barriers,” says project manager Laurent Fouda Owona. He regrets that certain customs and traditions act as barriers to the vaccination operation, as well as misinformation.

The coordinator of the Expanded Program on Immunization for the Centre region, Dr. Brice Edzoa, indicates that the project contributed to the improvement of routine vaccination indicators. Notably, the recall of zero-dose children and an emphasis on HPV vaccination, on the vaccination side. “But beyond vaccination, there are also nutrition interventions,” he said. He mentions, among others, vitamin A supplementation, EPI target children, and non-EPI target children. Also, iron and folic acid supplementation for adolescents, which was effective and evaluated. The coordinator also notes an improvement in breastfeeding, which according to him is an intervention very dear to the Ministry of Public Health.

At the end of the presentation, the project managers gave several recommendations. They wish, among other things, to align the project results with the results of the Ministry of Health platform where data from districts and health areas are centralized. Continue interventions by organizing advocacy with parents for their commitment to vaccination. One of the recommendations concerns the reconciliation of district data for data collection and reviewing collaboration with district heads.
