
Sanctions were handed down following the session of the Disciplinary Chamber of the National Order of Physicians of Cameroon held on May 16, 2026, in Bertoua in the East region.
About ten doctors practicing in Cameroon received sanctions of up to 12 months suspension from activity. This is at the end of the investigation of three cases brought before the Disciplinary Chamber of the National Order of Physicians of Cameroon. The said chamber, having sat on May 16, delivered the verdict on the case involving doctors from the Yaoundé University Hospital Center CHU, following the death of Dr. Nancy Halary Mbengono, the case against Dr. Jounda Nguegoh Guy Prosper, and the case against Clinique des Anges following the death of Miss Siewe. Sanctions of up to one year suspension are imposed on several doctors.

In the first case, relating to the death of Dr. Nancy Halary Mbengono at the Yaoundé CHU, the disciplinary chamber found two professors and two doctors guilty of several breaches. These include negligence, lack of supervision, breaches of care safety obligations, breaches of anesthetic and transfusion safety protocols, organizational deficiencies in the management of hemorrhagic and obstetric emergencies, technical surgical errors among others.
The disciplinary body condemns Professors Elie Nkwabong and Bonaventure Jemea as well as Dr. Calvin Tiyou to a 12-month suspension of activities. Resident doctors receive a six-month suspension while Dr. Antoinette Ngo Ngue is acquitted. Each convicted person must also pay an amount of 400,000 FCFA for costs generated by the procedure.

In the case against Dr. Guy Prosper Jounda Nguegoh, the disciplinary chamber finds him guilty of violating the principles of honor and integrity contained in the Hippocratic oath. He is consequently sentenced to six months suspension from activity and to pay an amount of 750,000 FCFA for costs generated by the procedure.
In the third case, involving Clinique des Anges after the death of Stéphanie Siewe, the disciplinary body finds three doctors guilty of various accusations. These include complicity in illegal medical practice, illegal medical practice in Bonaberi, serious breaches of medical ethics, negligence. Consequently, Dr. Emma Pyrette Tchatchouang Lowe is sentenced to a three-month suspension of activities, Dr. Christine Raïssa Nkengue Ejenguelle to a five-month suspension, and Dr. Élie Bassa to a four-month suspension. All must each pay 400,000 FCFA for costs generated by the procedure.
