Gathered in Mbankomo since May 18, 2026, public authorities, researchers, and civil society are examining the third National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. A document expected to be a major lever for the country’s economic and environmental transformation by 2030.
Cameroon is accelerating the revision of its national biodiversity policy. Opened this Monday, May 18, 2026, in Mbankomo, the national workshop dedicated to the review and pre-validation of NBSAP III marks a decisive step before the final adoption of the document scheduled for May 22, on the occasion of International Biodiversity Day.
Presided over by Prof. Tchawa Paul, Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment, the work brings together sectoral administrations, academics, researchers, and civil society organizations around a common goal: to provide Cameroon with an updated strategic framework for the protection and sustainable enhancement of its natural heritage.
Under the moderation of Mrs. Beyala née Eloundou Babette, Inspector General at MINEPDED and focal point of the Convention on Biological Diversity, participants review the five main axes of the document, ranging from the legal framework to financing mechanisms, including monitoring and evaluation and resource mobilization.
The result of two years of consultations, NBSAP III aims to further integrate biodiversity into public policies and the implementation of the SND30. The text notably provides for strengthened ecological monitoring systems, skills development, and gender inclusion in environmental programs.
Through this strategy, Cameroon intends to make biodiversity a driver of sustainable development and a pillar of its structural transformation.
