A new chapter opens at the National Assembly of Cameroon. The speaker’s seat, occupied for 34 years by the deputy from Mayo-Sava Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, has a new occupant. Théodore Datouo, 66, until now one of the six vice-presidents of the National Assembly, becomes the president of the lower house of parliament. Born around 1960 in Bangou in the Hauts-Plateaux department, West region, Théodore Datouo is a Cameroonian politician and entrepreneur.

A member of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM), he is one of the most loyal members of the majority party in the National Assembly and the Senate. His accession to this chamber and its permanent bureau is a sign of his consistency, commitment, and influence in the service of the party and his people. A politician, unifier, and influential figure in his locality, he is one of the most influential figures of the Renewal in the West.
He has sat in the National Assembly for several legislatures and has, in addition to the post of vice-president, played important roles. He was chairman of the Coordination Committee for the construction of the new National Assembly Palace built through China-Cameroon cooperation. This Tuesday morning, the CPDM parliamentary group designated him to replace Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.
