Above all, this session will be devoted to the election of the Senate Bureau and the setting up of committees. These steps are crucial to ensuring the optimal functioning of the Upper House throughout the year.
But the 2026 session is distinguished by an unprecedented event: from March 24 to 25, the Senate will host the Parliamentary Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), on the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference, co-organized with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the European Parliament. Nearly 400 delegates from about a hundred countries are expected, offering the Senate the opportunity to strengthen its international influence.
The President of the Senate, Marcel Niat Njifenji, intends to give this meeting a special character, while ensuring that national priorities remain at the heart of the session.
