Cameroon is preparing a shift in sustainable capital markets. The AfDB plans to partially guarantee a 690 million USD loan intended to finance high-impact projects in energy, health, water, education, and agriculture.
The mechanism is innovative: the AfDB guarantee would allow Yaoundé to access more attractive rates and attract investors sensitive to ESG criteria.
But this opportunity comes at a price. The scheme is accompanied by strengthened requirements in environmental and social safeguards. Each project must demonstrate its sustainability, inclusion, and compliance with international standards.
