The national president of MP3 announces having seized the president of the National Assembly, Théodore Datouo. The purpose of the request is to evaluate the conditions for referring the Constitutional Council in order to declare the vacancy of the presidency of the Republic.
61 days of the president of the Republic outside the national territory, “It’s too much!” exclaims the daily Le Messager in its August 7, 2026 issue. Too much is also probably the term whose resonance triggers the referral of the National Assembly by the president of the Patriotic Movement for the Prosperity of the People (MP3). Hiram Samuel Iyodi announced on August 7, 2026, that he had seized the day before the president of the lower house of Parliament, Théodore Datouo.

At a time when the future of Cameroon is at stake and the Cameroonian people must exercise and protect their sovereignty, the politician turns to the National Representation. According to him, the National Assembly is entitled to seize the Constitutional Council in order to declare the vacancy of the presidency of the Republic due to the definitive impediment of the head of state.
The youngest candidate in the 2025 presidential election believes that 60 days outside the territory for the president of the Republic is enough to declare the definitive impediment. This main reason is accompanied by related secondary arguments. These include the threat hanging over the stability and continuity of the State, the vice-presidency restored by the law of April 14, 2026 but not yet filled; fierce succession battles at the top of the State; uncontrolled debt; the exacerbation of security crises.
Such a context casting an institutional crisis over Cameroon, the MP3 through its president introduces three requests to Parliament. First, that the deputies adopt a law to limit the stay of the head of state abroad. Then, that they acknowledge the major risks weighing on the stability and future of the nation. Finally, that the deputies seize the Constitutional Council so that it examines and declares the vacancy of the presidency of the Republic.

The request reaffirms the MP3’s position on the matter. It opens a new window of discussion on the possibility that the National Assembly now has to seize the Constitutional Council so that it carries out its mission of declaring the vacancy of the presidency. It seems not to take into account the provisions of the law of April 14, 2026 modifying and supplementing certain provisions of the law of April 21, 2004 on the organization and functioning of the Constitutional Council. The latter gives the power to seize the Council only to the vice-president in case of definitive impediment of the head of state.
But, in his argument, the president of MP3 asks Cameroonians from the 58 departments to call on the deputies to provoke the convocation of an extraordinary session of the National Assembly to address this issue. At the end of the term, this would be, according to Samuel Iyodi, “the heaviest and most salvific act” that the people’s representatives would have taken in favor of the nation they represent.
