Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella received on August 4, 2026, a delegation from the ECCAS led by Rosario Mbasogo Kung. On the agenda: the structural challenges of the organization and the urgency of member states paying their contributions to restore budgetary balance.
Cameroonian diplomacy reaffirms its commitment to sub-regional integration. On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Lejeune Mbella Mbella, granted an audience to a high-level delegation from the Economic Community of Central African States.
Led by Mrs. Rosario Mbasogo Kung, Minister of Regional Integration of Equatorial Guinea and current Chairperson of the ECCAS Council of Ministers, the mission was accompanied by the Commission President, Mr. Ézéchiel Nibigira. Also present were Deputy Minister Félix Mbayu, Cameroon’s High Commissioner to Gabon Edith Ondoua, and several senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This meeting is part of the follow-up on strategic files of the community space. For more than an hour, discussions focused on the challenges hindering ECCAS’s progress. Both parties made an unvarnished diagnosis of the institutional and operational blockages undermining the organization’s effectiveness.
Cameroon, host country to several ECCAS institutions, reiterated its expectation: to build a strong, resilient, and truly integrated regional community. Yaoundé insists on the need to give the Commission the means to achieve its ambitions.

The central point of the advocacy carried by the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers: the financial issue. Mrs. Mbasogo Kung called on member states to regularly pay the Community Integration Contribution and to clear arrears. According to her, these payments are the sine qua non condition to restore ECCAS’s budgetary balance and guarantee the sustainability of its programs.
At a time when Central Africa seeks to accelerate its economic integration, this visit marks the willingness of both parties to get ECCAS back on track, between institutional reforms and budgetary discipline.
