Political elites and other vital forces of the region are mobilizing for a massive gathering of people at the Toket Omnisports stadium on Saturday, July 25.
Populations from the West region in general, and those from the Hauts Plateaux in particular, are mobilizing to thank President Paul Biya. The reason is that their son, MP Théodore Datouo, has been the President of the National Assembly since March 17, 2026. Following the selection made by the hierarchy of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, the MPs elected him to head the lower house of Parliament. He replaces the late Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.
Following this election, the populations of the West region, under the impetus of the ruling party’s executives from the constituency, want to thank the national president of the CPDM, President of the Republic. For the occasion, the elites, mostly members of the ruling party, have collected more than 110 million FCFA.
Looking ahead, the ambition is to gather hundreds of thousands of people at the Toket Omnisports stadium during this event. The party’s mobilization is carried out from the grassroots committees to the permanent regional delegation, passing through sub-sections, sections, and departmental permanent delegations. The preparations encompass all event aspects. The goal is to express to the Head of State the gratitude of the region, which is one of the areas of the country where, despite the rise of the opposition, the populations continue to support the torch party. And to show him “unwavering support”.
The event is part of a practice already rooted in Cameroon, consisting of organizing large meetings to thank the head of the ruling party following the appointment of personalities. This practice, presented as a manifestation of joy for the integration of communities into the sharing of the national cake, sees localities sparing no expense to organize it. While the meetings serve to mobilize the electorate for future victories for the benefit of the ruling party, the sums collected to organize them can be used to improve the living conditions of local populations.
