The Cameroonian poet and social entrepreneur participated in the 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty in the French Republic. Back from this global event, the young doctoral student shares her experience.
On the occasion of the very last World Congress Against the Death Penalty organized in Paris at the end of last June, Sara TIMB contributed to the discussions. She was among the nine young ambassadors against the death penalty selected worldwide to pay tribute to Robert Badinter, the historical architect of the abolition of the death penalty in France. As such, the young poet delivered a tribute in Tunen at the opening ceremony of the congress at the Maison de la radio et de la musique de France. By delivering the message in Tunen, one of the languages of Cameroon’s linguistic heritage, she helped promote Cameroon’s cultural heritage to participants from five continents.
Also, on the sidelines of the congress, the young Cameroonian took part in a restricted committee exchange with French President Emmanuel Macron in the presence of another young ambassador and the twelve laureates of the Marianne initiative. She enriched this exchange through her contribution. The young doctoral student drew this contribution from her experience and commitment in Cameroon on issues related to the right to life, the promotion of human rights, the role of youth, and the contribution of civil society in building more just, more inclusive, and more respectful societies of human dignity.
Without any institutional mandate, she represented young Cameroonian and African leaders in this major global reflection on justice, human rights, and human dignity. For her, this participation is a moral and civic responsibility to honor Cameroon in general, and youth in particular. Participation in the various activities honors and commits her. “I saw it as an opportunity to share a contribution stemming from my commitment in Cameroon, but also to learn from women and men who dedicate their lives to defending human dignity,” she declares after her return to Cameroon.

Organized by the association Together Against the Death Penalty (ECPM) from June 30 to June 02, 2026, the 9th World Congress on the Abolition of the Death Penalty remains a memorable event. It brought together nearly 1,300 delegates from 100 countries, 200 diplomats, 700 civil society actors, political leaders, parliamentarians, magistrates, academics, researchers, and press representatives. All share a common ambition focused on promoting the universal abolition of the death penalty and defending the right to life.
