Less than two years before the deadline of the Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Program in the Niger Basin, the Cameroonian government and the Niger Basin Authority want to accelerate the implementation of projects. A mobilization deemed essential in the face of environmental and food challenges affecting the sub-region.

At the heart of the discussions was the need to accelerate the implementation of projects in an area shared by nine countries and nearly 200 million inhabitants. Faced with land degradation, pressure on water resources, and the increasing effects of climate change, the region is relying on structuring investments to preserve biodiversity and strengthen food security.
The program benefits from a total funding estimated at nearly 134 billion FCFA, mobilized with the support of several international partners. Cameroon receives a little over 9 billion FCFA, to which are added 3 billion intended for the construction of infrastructure for agricultural, pastoral, and economic uses.
But time is running out. While the deadline is set for December 31, 2027, the execution rate has reached only 35% at the regional level and 30% in Cameroon. The two parties have thus agreed to strengthen institutional coordination, activity monitoring, and the removal of operational constraints.
