Anarchic occupation: Yaoundé city hall gives an ultimatum on the Fecafoot–Niki Mokolo axis

The mayor of the capital made a statement to this effect on February 03, 2026.

In a press release made public on February 03, 2026, the mayor of Yaoundé, Luc Messi Atangana, announced a vast operation to clear public thoroughfares on the road section connecting the Fecafoot headquarters to the Niki Mokolo crossroads. The measure concerns traders, street vendors, and owners of makeshift garages illegally set up on sidewalks and the roadway.

The mayor of the capital specifies that the occupants have until Thursday, February 05, 2026, to vacate the areas concerned. He invites them to return to the recently built hangars at the Mokolo market, which have a capacity of 1,500 places, specially designed for their installation.
This decision is part of the actions taken by the Yaoundé urban community to combat the anarchic occupation of public spaces, improve traffic flow, and enhance user safety.
