Cameroon: 12 dead and 15 injured in Badjengo

The tragedy occurred on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in the locality of Badjengo, Pitoa district, on National Road N°1, the section connecting the cities of Maroua and Garoua.

A minibus carrying more than twenty passengers, which had departed from Tchatchibali in the Far North region to travel to Ngaoundéré in Adamaoua, left the road and ended its journey by hitting a tree. The toll is 12 dead, including three infants, and about fifteen injured, two of whom are serious. The injured, some of whom are in critical condition, were urgently taken to the integrated health center of Badjengo and the regional annex hospital of Garoua. The lifeless bodies were kept at the morgue of the said hospital.

After the accident, administrative authorities made an emergency visit to the scene. The prefect of Bénoué, Oumarou Haman Wabi, after detailing the accident’s toll as indicated above, pointed to speeding as one of the possible causes of the fatal accident.
