The administrative authority informed the populations of its constituency through a press release published on February 14, 2026.

The Prefect of the Diamaré Department, EKOA MBARGA Jean-Marc, Civil Administrator, published an official press release on February 14, 2026, warning against the resurgence of illegal land transactions in the city of Maroua and its metropolitan area.
According to the administrative authority, it has been noted “with desolation and astonishment” that individuals “without right or title” are carrying out sales and transactions on the private domain of the State, in flagrant violation of the rules governing the management of public real estate assets.
The areas particularly concerned by these practices are Katoual, Ngassa, Sekandé, Djoundé, and Kodek, where plots belonging to the private domain of the State are allegedly being fraudulently transferred.

In order to put a definitive end to these actions, the Prefect announces the immediate establishment of a commission for the control and monitoring of the private domain of the State. This commission will carry out unannounced visits to the various implicated sites without delay.
Any person caught in a situation of illegal occupation of a part of the private domain of the State will be immediately apprehended, followed by the opening of an investigation. Any accomplices will not be spared.

The press release also specifies that constructions illegally erected on these lands will be subject to demolition, after a notice to comply has remained ineffective for a period of thirty (30) days.
The prefect calls on the populations to show civic responsibility and insists on the scrupulous respect for public property as well as the legal procedures governing its management. He invites citizens to be vigilant and to ensure the regularity of any land transaction before engaging in it.
This firm stance by the administrative authority aims to clean up the management of public land and protect the State’s real estate assets against any form of illegal speculation.
