The steering committee takes stock of project progress and defines priorities for 2026, a few months before the municipal and legislative elections.

Members of the steering committee for the United Nations Technical Assistance to the 2025-2027 electoral cycle in Cameroon met this Wednesday, March 4, for their second session. The meeting was co-chaired by the Chairperson of ELECAM, Dr. Enow Abrams EGBE, and the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cameroon, Dr. Issa SANOGO.
This session allowed for an evaluation of the progress made since the project’s launch in May 2025 and the definition of priorities for the year 2026. The evaluation revealed significant progress in promoting a peaceful electoral environment, strengthening institutional capacities, as well as inclusion and citizen engagement, in line with the project’s three main pillars.
Addressing the committee members, Dr. Enow Abrams EGBE emphasized that the United Nations Technical Assistance contributes significantly to strengthening ELECAM’s capacities, improving procedures, modernizing electoral management tools, and promoting best practices in transparency, inclusion, and accountability.
Dr. Issa SANOGO, for his part, welcomed the collaboration between ELECAM and the United Nations system. He also thanked financial partners, such as the PBF and the Kingdom of Spain, whose generous contribution has enabled the implementation of the project so far.
Priorities for 2026 will focus on inclusion, institutional capacity building, and multi-party dialogues, in order to consolidate a peaceful environment around the electoral process.
