According to the political party of which Anicet Ekane was national president, the politician’s body will leave the morgue of the Yaoundé Central Hospital on Tuesday, March 03, 2026, for the Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport. By flight, it will be transported to the country’s economic capital, where the opponent was based. The party invites all “Kamerunian patriots” to take part in this body transfer operation according to a schedule that is still awaited.

Deceased on December 1st, 2025, on the premises of the State Secretariat for Defense, Anicet Georges Ekane has not yet been buried. His body, placed under seal by order of the government commissioner at the Yaoundé military court, was handed over to the family last week following the lifting of judicial restrictions. This follows pressure from the family represented by lawyers and certain political leaders, as well as the conclusion of investigations opened by the authorities to determine the causes of his death.

The transfer of the body from Yaoundé to Douala already sets the tone for the final tribute that the opponent’s political family is preparing to pay to the man who, over the last 35 years, has marked Cameroon’s political history. He was part of every struggle on the opposition side for a democratic transition at the head of the state. In the wake of the tributes, his political struggle companion, the incarcerated Djeukam Tchameni, has already written a book titled “Anicet Ekane my companion in struggle” to pay tribute to his deceased comrade. The book, prefaced by Henriette Ekwe, a politician and member of the Union of the Peoples of Cameroon, features a postface by Me Alice Nkom.
