Cameroon/ Oil fraud: Minee strikes again, over 5,000 liters seized in one week

The National Brigade for the Fight Against Petroleum Product Fraud is on all fronts. In less than a week, two major operations have made it possible to seize 5,275 liters of illicit fuel.

The first operation took place in Yaoundé and its surroundings between September 9 and 11, 2026. Under the instructions of Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba, it lasted 72 hours of intensive tracking. Accompanied by the law enforcement forces, the brigadiers thoroughly searched the smuggling sites identified through intelligence in Olembé, Nkometou, Boumnyebel, Mfou, Sombo, Monti.

The operation also targeted gas stations to enforce the circular of March 21, 2023, which prohibits the sale of fuel in non-compliant containers over 100 liters. At the end of the operation, the result was 1,075 liters of fuel seized.

The second operation was a raid by the Brigade on the Sangmélima axis in the South region. It took place from September 12 to 13, 2026. Based on intelligence, the teams carried out a new intervention. This time, the brigadiers followed and intercepted a truck transporting diesel hidden in a compartment. The result is heavier: 4,200 liters of diesel seized. For a total of 5,275 liters of fraudulent fuel seized in one week.

The Minister of Transport reminds that the downstream sector is strictly regulated by decree n°2000/935/PM of November 13, 2000. According to this regulatory framework, the storage, transport, and distribution of petroleum products outside the regulatory circuit constitute fraud. Thus, following these seizures, the ministry states the objective to “relentlessly continue these operations throughout the national triangle” to clean up supply circuits.
