In a message addressed to the activists of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon, the deputy secretary general reveals his decision by specifying the context.
Three days after Professor Maurice Kamto’s resignation as head of the MRC, the deputy secretary general, Pierre Emmanuel Binyam, publicly announces his decision to succeed him. Through Facebook, the party official informs the activists of this political party of his decision to present his candidacy. For the elections that will take place during the upcoming convention at the party headquarters in Yaoundé, the declared candidate says he has formed his team. His list is already ready.

The candidacy is announced at a time when the party is preparing the convention announced to restructure the party hierarchy ahead of the electoral deadlines. Reading the candidate’s message, three challenges justify his intention. The preparation of the 2027 municipal and legislative elections, the search for a parliamentary and municipal majority, the consolidation of the party’s achievements in its fight for the rule of law and change. “I thus wish to contribute to the debate on the future, organization, and orientations of the MRC, respecting its principles and values,” he announces.
Pierre Emmanuel Binyam is not unknown to the MRC. Being part of the party’s inner circle, the lawyer by training is one of the officials who supported the political formation during difficult times. In particular after the detention of the board members in 2019 as well as during the boycott of the legislative and municipal elections in 2020. He is one of the actors who master the political formation in its internal functioning.

By running for the presidency of the MRC, Pierre Binyam intends to give the party a new trajectory following the election boycott and the closure of the debate on the succession at the head of the political formation. He wants to have a greater influence on the political line in 2027 by progressing from the position of deputy secretary to a more prominent post. He takes the stance of someone who wants to conquer the seat held for more than a decade by Maurice Kamto.
He, who enjoys massive popular support, tried in 2018 to succeed President Paul Biya at the head of the State. But he only gathered 14% of the votes in the official results. Emmanuel Binyam can count on his knowledge of the MRC apparatus and on the network of the party’s federations. Thus opens the succession to the presidency of the MRC. The upcoming developments promise to be democratic.
