The party chaired by Maurice Kamto expresses its indignation and denounces the authorities’ “culpable passivity” in the face of the multiplying domestic femicides in Cameroonian society.
The phenomenon of domestic femicides claims an average of one victim per day in Cameroon, according to the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC). The recent case of a mother poisoned by her husband is one case too many, prompting the political party to break its silence. The MRC therefore demands that ”each be counted, that each name be known, that each perpetrator be prosecuted”.

If the political party reaches this demand, it is due to the inefficiency observed in the fight against the phenomenon. It highlights the almost general indifference in which this case occurred and points out the State’s behavior at a time when women are victims of the highest level of violence ever made public in Cameroon. The political party emphasizes the State’s weakness, marked by unkept promises of judicial reforms, episodic awareness campaigns, and watered-down official statistics. All these factors lead the MRC to state that “domestic violence kills in Cameroon, and the State looks away”.
The political party also expresses indignation against lenient sentences and the complicit silence of local authorities who refrain from interfering in family matters. At a time when the urgency is to find effective solutions to resolve the problem, the opposition party demands justice.
The MRC advocates reclassifying the acts as “premeditated murder” and imposing “exemplary sentences” against perpetrators without taking into account mitigating circumstances related to the family context. In terms of awareness, the party calls for breaking the silence by reporting danger and being vigilant. To women, it urges them not to confuse love and submission, and to maintain distrust despite trust.
The party’s statement is presented both as an expression of indignation and as a contribution to reflection on a phenomenon that seems to overwhelm public authorities.
