CEMAC: Commission temporarily suspends activities due to lack of cash

The Commission of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) has announced the provisional suspension of all its activities and missions, due to a continuous deterioration of its financial situation.

The decision was made public through a circular note signed on February 05, 2026, by the President of the Commission, Baltasar Engonga.

According to the document, the figures regularly presented by the accounting officers indicate an extremely low level of cash, compromising the normal functioning of the community institutions. Despite the instructions from the UEAC Council of Ministers and a circular mission carried out by the Vice-President of the Commission in several member states, the expected results are slow to materialize.
Faced with this situation, deemed “more than worrying,” the Commission has decided to suspend all its non-essential activities, pending an improvement in the collection of the Community Integration Tax (TCI).
