The new president of the National Assembly, the Senate president, and the new Attorney General at the Supreme Court of Cameroon took their place alongside the Head of State at the podium on the occasion of the parade for the 54th edition of the National Unity Day.

For the very first time as president of the National Assembly, Théodore Datouo took his place in the honor box on Boulevard du 20 mai not far from the President of the Republic Paul Biya. He led the delegation of the institution composed of the deputies who are members of the bureau to the ceremony. Elected president of the lower house of the Cameroonian Parliament on March 17, 2026, the deputy occupied the seat of the third highest official of the Republic. This seat was held by his predecessor, the late Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, for more than 30 consecutive years. This thus confirms the beginning of a new era within the state apparatus.

An era that also extends to the Senate with the presence of the new chamber president in the first box of the presidential podium on May 20. His Majesty Aboubakary Abdoulaye led the delegation of the upper house of parliament, composed of the bureau members, on Boulevard du 20 mai. The new chamber president elected on March 17, 2026, occupied the seat of the second highest official of the Republic, which his predecessor Marcel Niat Njifenji, of blessed memory, had held since 2013. As the first vice-president of the Senate, the current chamber head often represented President Niat at major ceremonies when the latter was absent.

This is not quite the case for the new Attorney General at the Supreme Court of Cameroon. Marie Claire Dieudonnee Nseng Elang, appointed on November 20, 2025, replacing Luc Ndjodo, took her place in the front row of the presidential podium on May 20, 2026, after the president of the National Assembly to her right and before the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defense, to her left. The magistrate outside the hierarchy and the first woman to hold this position in Cameroon is also the embodiment of a new generation of personalities in command, and especially one of the rare female figures at this level.

At the Economic and Social Council, the first vice-president, Emmanuel Nzete, led the delegation of the said council to the parade site, as the council has had no president since the death of Luc Ayang on October 14, 2025. Pending the appointment of a new president, the first vice-president occupied the seat that the former president had held since 1984.

With these new figures at the head and within the highest institutions of the Republic, Cameroon is on the path of changing personalities. A change dictated to the Yaoundé regime by nature.
