Meeting in Brazil, South Atlantic countries have strengthened their cooperation. Cameroon defended multilateralism and maritime security there.
Cameroon took part, on April 8 and 9, 2026, in Rio de Janeiro, in the 9th ministerial meeting of the South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone (ZOPACAS). Led by the Secretary General of the Ministry of External Relations, Chinmoun Oumarou, the delegation brought together representatives from diplomacy, defense, and the embassy in Brasilia.
At the heart of the discussions: maritime security and ocean governance. Cameroon reaffirmed its commitment to multilateral cooperation in the face of common challenges in the Atlantic space.
The work led to the adoption of the Rio de Janeiro Declaration, its action plan, and a convention on ocean governance, marking a step in the coordination of maritime policies of member states.
