The national president of the Front des démocrates camerounais (FDC) published on April 21 what he describes as the truth about Maurice Kamto’s investiture for the presidential election of October 12, 2025.

Denis Emilien Atangana, leader of the FDC, accuses the national president of the Mouvement pour la renaissance du Cameroun, Maurice Kamto, candidate for the presidential election of October 2026, of having wanted to buy the investiture from the FDC. The university professor, who aspired to the presidential chair for the second time, and who “absolutely wanted to run as a candidate in this presidential election, then offered 100 million to the FDC,” reveals Denis Emilien Atangana.

The latter recalls that their discussion on the modalities of investiture took place at the residence of His Majesty BILOA EFFA on a Sunday at 6 p.m. Following the proposal of the then opposition leader, the FDC president declared that he considered this amount insufficient. He continued his statement by making it clear that “without a doubt” Maurice Kamto “had paid money to the late Anicet Ekane” to obtain the investiture of Manidem. A transaction made easy by Anicet Ekane’s state of health, whose care required money, argues the FDC president.

With these clarifications, everything suggests that the candidate who obtained Manidem’s investiture was ready to spend sums to achieve this objective. He was faced with the requirement to produce 300 legalized signatures from elected officials or traditional chiefs of the 1st degree, at a rate of 30 per region, to validate his independent candidacy or one backed by the MRC. Denis Emilien Atangana supports, on the one hand, Djeukam Tchameni, who in his work published in homage to his companion Anicet Ekane reveals that Maurice Kamto and Jean Michel Nintcheu conducted financial negotiations for the investiture. However, on the other hand, he contradicts Djeukam Tchameni, who states that Anicet Ekane took a principled stand despite the financial negotiations.

With these details, everything suggests that presidential candidate Maurice Kamto was ready to finance the obtaining of his investiture. But nothing is certain. Coming from the FDC president, who very early congratulated President Paul Biya at the end of the election and who does not hide his proximity to the regime, such a revelation requires a thorough investigation to gather evidence. It can nevertheless hold as long as the main person concerned does not provide contrary elements.
